U-Bolt threads stretch when installed. They should not be re-used because the threads are damaged and while the nut may appear to be tight, in fact the U-Bolt may be loose.
So much depends on U-Bolt integrity in a suspension system that the small cost
a new set of U-Bolts represents far outweighs the danger of axle separation.
